Mingle Here!

Introduce yourself. Converse. Have fun.

This comment thread is now closed. No, it wasn't because of that incident where we had to call the cops. (You know who we're talking about. Don't play innocent. That was a pretty hefty fine we had to pay.)(But dang right, it was worth it!)

Fresh thread at Mingle 2.

Hello everyone!

Phoenix Sullivan said...

Hey everybody! Let's get rockin'!

Robin sent her love, Sparky, in an earlier comment on a post that got deleted. Accidentally, of course. Yeah, that's it. Accidentally.

Phoenix Sullivan said...

Hi Sylvia! Thought you were schmoozing with aliens today.

Robin B. said...

Hi there!! I'm enjoying grabbing a drink in the morning!

The 'tasty' contest reminds me of the golden days of 2007. YES - FOUR YEARS AGO! Where the hell has the time gone?

Robin B. said...

P.S. I just went and looked at Contest #5 - brought back excellent memories of the infamous 'EE tasty discussion' of 2007 - 83 comments on New Beginning 414 - baby. Yeah!

Phoenix Sullivan said...

Ah yes. NB 414. Good times. Makes me feel so ... old.

Robin B. said...

Tell me about it. Somehow I'd decided that all happened in 2008 or so. Then I went and searched and found it. Yowza. Time has flown!

Sarah Laurenson said...

Four years ago! Four! *creak* Damn!

Hey everybody. Lovely anniversary site!!!

fairyhedgehog said...

Hi everyone! I'm sort of here but a lot of life seems to be happening at the moment and interrupting my online time.

I'll drink wine with you as much as I can. Oh, and I brought brownies. No, not that sort of brownies, the chocolate ones.

ril said...

Mingle, mingle, mingle, mingle, mingle, mingle, mingle, mingle, mingle, mingle, mingle, mingle, mingle, mingle, mingle, mingle...

Robin B. said...

YAY, it's Sarah and Gina!! Do you all know HOW LONG we've now known each other!?

Where's Sparky, by the way?

Robin B. said...

ril - how are you?!!

ril said...

Oh, you know... Jus' minglin'

ril said...

I hope you guys brought beer, 'cause there's a beer shortage where I am.

Evil Editor said...

Greetings, Minionhood.

Evil Editor said...

Does radioactive beer get you drunker?

ril said...

No, but it stays warm longer, which is good for us Brits.

Apparently.

Sarah Laurenson said...

Does it make your pee glow in the dark?

ril said...

Just a second...

...

...

...ahh...

....

...

Yup. Actually it does.

Robin B. said...

Ha!

Evil Editor said...

Why is it like the old days? Why don't the relatively new minions chime in?

ril said...

I know... Kids today, eh?

Robin B. said...

I think the relatively new minions SHOULD chime in! Come on, you all. We don't bite.

P.S. Sparky - there's a tasty competition. #5. Fairyhedgehog has already laid one down.

Sarah Laurenson said...

They're intimidated by our rapier wit.

Hahahahahahahahaha

Evil Editor said...

I forgot to put baking powder in the muffins I made this morning. They came out flat and dense. Should I dump them, or would it work to crumble them up and make bread pudding?

Robin B. said...

Yeah, that's it!!

ril said...

Some of us bite.

Robin B. said...

Crumble them, then crumble some brown sugar over them, drizzle a little butter over all of that, bake a bit longer, and say you have a new recipe for coffee-cake-bits.

Sarah Laurenson said...

You could try a little with a pudding sauce and see if it's worth the effort.

ril said...

Assume you're speaking of American muffins (cake)?

Sarah Laurenson said...

And some of us have had our ril shots.

Robin B. said...

And yeah, all things considered, I guess we do, indeed, bite...

Evil Editor said...

What's pudding sauce?

ril said...

You can pud anything you like in it.

Sarah Laurenson said...

The sauce you use with bread pudding.

ril said...

Ketchup.

Robin B. said...

...and sometimes you can add raisins. to the pud. sauce. the sauce is usually yellow-ish....but it does not to my knowledge, glow in the dark like ril's pee.

Sarah Laurenson said...

Unless you add some of ril's beer to it. But there's a shortage and we wouldn't want to deprive him.

ril said...

When was the last time you ate pudding in the dark?

Evil Editor said...

Has that nuclear reactor been tamed yet? It's been replaced on the front pages by Lindsey Lohan yet again, so we in the US have lost track.

ril said...

The only stuff I could get tastes like pee.

Apparently.

Sarah Laurenson said...

They sent you american beer?

ril said...

It's tamer than Lindsay Lohan...

ril said...

I wish. I think it's Canadian.

Evil Editor said...

You need to start home brewing.

ril said...

Fortunately wine and liquor are still available off the shelf.

Sarah Laurenson said...

We need a new contest: Name ril's microbrewery.

Robin B. said...

Yeah. Got any yeast around?

ril said...

Ooh, time for a yeast joke!

ril said...

I know...

We're in luck -- it's yeaster weekend.

Sarah Laurenson said...

Lots of hops in that one.

ril said...

That wasn't my first choice, but this is a family show...

Robin B. said...

Damn. I miss these riffs. EE, maybe we should have open mike times at your place sometimes?

Evil Editor said...

Have you ever noticed that you never see hops in the grocery store?

Evil Editor said...

There are so few times that are convenient for everyone. And what fun would it be without everyone?

ril said...

Yeah you do- it's in cans. Well, not here though.

Robin B. said...

OK OK...but they sure are fun. My face hurts from smiling.

Evil Editor said...

Cans of hops? Do you eat them out of the can? Cook them like rice? What are they?

Sarah Laurenson said...

Hops are one of the fastest growing, um, whatever they are. Can fill a trellis in one season.

We should all be brewing - except they're really prone to spark allergy attacks, too.

Robin B. said...

Hops in cans? Sounds kinda kinky to me, but then, it would...

ril said...

My face hurts from slamming it on the draining board.

Don't ask.

Sarah Laurenson said...

That would be hops in sacks just for you, Rob.

Evil Editor said...

Are hops to beer as baking powder is to muffins? Without them it turns out flat?

ril said...

Well actually it's a mix of hops, barley, water, yeast and sugar. In a can.

Blogless Troll said...

Hey just stopping in to say hi and happy blogeeversary. Cool site. I'll be back on day 3. I've got a poppet to win.

Robin B. said...

Ahhhh. I feel so at home with you guys, which is odd, as one of you has slammed his face into a draining board...

Robin B. said...

Hey BT!

ril said...

Only once. Didn't like it, didn't do it again.

Sarah Laurenson said...

Who was that masked troll?

Phoenix Sullivan said...

didn't do it again.

Yet.

ril said...

I admit, it is tempting. And no one is watching.

Landra said...

Hola! Stopping by for quick greeting.
Gotta clean house for an impromptu mother visit.

Back a little later if time. FYI I know ya'll bite! That's why I like ya!

Robin B. said...

Hey Slush! Come back soon for a nice nibble...

ril said...

Did someone put a drive thru sign up outside?

Sarah Laurenson said...

Sorry. I forgot to shower first.

Robin B. said...

Yeah, we do seem to be having these drive-by deals...I'm checking to make sure I brushed my teeth!

Evil Editor said...

Blogless is a fitting name for the troll, as he hasn't posted in over a year.

Sarah Laurenson said...

Now there's a rapier wit I miss reading.

ril said...

Yeah, the slacker. Letting the side down.

I'm up to 12 tweets on twitter, by the way...

Phoenix Sullivan said...

I was happy to see FHH make such a lovely toast over *there*. But did anyone else notice that while she abstained from drinking while driving, she was apparently texting while driving?

Robin B. said...

Bad girl, bad!!

Evil Editor said...

It's lunch time here in my time zone. I'm having muffins and gravy. Check you later.

ril said...

We could ask her about it, but she seems to have disappeared...

Robin B. said...

HOLD ON thar a confounded minute. Ril, you're tweetin but not Facebookin?

ril said...

Enjoy muffin'.

Robin B. said...

EE, I'm leaving soon, too. Our house is up or sale, and I have to leave so people can come look through it. I'll be back later this afternoon/easrly evening.

ril said...

I'm not sure I truly qualify as tweeting either...

Robin B. said...

So....ril? Facebook? And Sarah?

ril said...

Hmm.

Robin B. said...

Oh, well. I know you don't really want to. It's just a nice alternative place to get your riff on, you all.

ril said...

I guess I should head out a get more beer.

I might be a while...

Sarah Laurenson said...

I have a FB account. Don't get there very often. And haven't been tweeting since my laptop display died. Need to get a few more files off the old one and on to this new one.

Robin B. said...

Good luck with your search! I'll see you guys later on....

Sarah Laurenson said...

It's nap time for me. Or rather time to dive back into Naomi Novik's Temeraire novels. Horatio Hornblower mashup with dragons. I'm in heaven.

Phoenix Sullivan said...

It's an open-door party. Everyone drop in when you can! Drive-by's are great -- 'cause then we can talk about you when you've gone...

Xiexie said...

You early risers! It's weekend. I shouldn't be awake before 10.

Hi folks!!!

Sandra Cormier said...

Yo, Yo, everyone! The blogiversary gods have blessed us (in this region, anyway) with a glorious sunny day to usher in Evil Editor's sixth year of query critting gold.

Happy Day, EE! I was just a wee little writer when you dissected my query for Bad Ice, Face Lift #26, back in May of 2006.

My hockey hero is still out there, clueless as ever.

Orlando said...

Hello everone!
I've never drank radio active beer, but I'll try anything once. Now I have drank beer that taste radio active. Oh no wait... that was Tequila.

Unknown said...

Hello! Congrats on 5 years, EE! And thanks for all the help & cruelty. ;)

fairyhedgehog said...

I posted before I drove and I drank afterwards.

Cheers, EE! To many more glorious years of evil editing!

Phoenix Sullivan said...

Yeah, FHH. That's what you say NOW.

fairyhedgehog said...

Um, yes Phoenix, that's correct. That is what I say now.

Although in a rather slurred voice because of the wine.

Phoenix Sullivan said...

A new prize has just been added to the available swag to be won, courtesy of Fairyhedgehog!

Go drool over the handsome journal. Now. Contest 6. You know you want it!

Phoenix Sullivan said...

And hurry before she sobers up and realizes what she's done.

fairyhedgehog said...

Hehe! *hic* snerk!

Robin B. said...

You people in here drinkin' without me?!! Well, I'm about to pour myself a glass of white wine....

Evil Editor said...

I declare that I will be here to mingle at 4 PM Sunday and 9 AM Monday. That doesn't mean I won't drop in at other times, but usually when I drop in there hasn't been a comment in an hour, so...

Robin B. said...

Wow, EE, you sound so Southern when you say..."Ah declay-ah..."

Evil Editor said...

What makes you think I'm not Southern?

Robin B. said...

I always figured you for a Yankee.

Evil Editor said...

aren't you from Louisville, right across the river from Indiana? that's practically Canada.

Phoenix Sullivan said...

A true Southern gentleman is not only tasty, he knows what tasty is.

Robin B. said...

Hey, it's definitely below the Mason Dixon line, buddy! Where do you think I got this lovely, lilting twang, honey?

Robin B. said...

Too true on the tasty, Phoenix!

Evil Editor said...

Sorry, I'm cooking, can't type regularly,

Robin B. said...

I'm sipping white wine (truly) and watching The Heritage on CBS. Luke Donald will be #1 in the world with a win here. Yeah. I admit it. I'm a golf geek.

What's cooking?

Phoenix Sullivan said...

I added the times you'll be around to the welcome post, EE. Thanks for letting us know!

vkw said...

Stopping just to say Hi. I would like it noted how fashionably late I am. I got to run . . . holidays and et all.

Aren't southern men suppose to genteel? I'm thinking EE is not southern.

vkw

Robin B. said...

Agree, vkw, that boy is not mannerly enough to be Southern, unless he's rich, in which case, he can be a pain in the South and it works out just fine.

Hello all! Sorry I'm somewhat tarty to the pardy, but I was up til 4 AM finishing up that cartoon salute to EE. The Xnormal site crashed and stayed down for a couple hours just as I got the video ready to publish and I freaked out. Fortunately when I'd returned from partying, it was back up and running. I think the end result came out pretty well. The cartoon even resembles a young EE sans specticles and lambchops.

"$25 Amazon gift card, $20 gift card/Paypal payment, a handcrafted objet d'art, a 10-page ms critique" - taking shots at winning those sounds a lot more fun than working on my WiP, so count on some submissions from me! And if FHH is offering a prize it should be to listen to her voice for an hour. WOW! Just heard her on one of her YouTube videos and I'm tingling all over.

EE - hope you feel the love. I want you to know you mean a ton to me and I couldn't have gotten published without your advice!

And Phoenix - thanks for hosting and for your blog too!

But beware. I think the Troll of all Trolls is lurking...

Not Normally Anonymous said...

EE - hope you smell the disdain. I want you to know you mean very little to me and I could have just as easily gotten published without your meddling!

And Phoenix - thanks for nothing!

;-)

Stacy said...

Hey everyone! Just dropping for a moment to say hi. Busy weekend this holiday. Hope everyone is having a good time!

Chelsea Pitcher said...

Hello! I'm here as well! Happy to be a part of it :)

Robin B. said...

Hi you all! Hopefully we can all get here Sunday at 4:00 pm, when His Royal Hiney will be here!

Phoenix Sullivan said...

Oh man, guilt by association!

Robin B. said...

You better believe it, girlfriend!

Jo-Ann said...

Great blog, Oh Evil One! Keep it going.

I'm munching an easter egg and packing to go away for the next few days, so my appearance here will be brief.

Now you can talk about me behind my back.

Phoenix Sullivan said...

Heehee. *rubs hands gleefully*

Anonymous said...

Anyone still here? I've been cooking for Easter all day.

Anonymous said...

Yep. The night shift (or West Coast) is on it!

Sandra Cormier said...

I just finished watching my hockey team lose in double OT, then watched Moses leading a bunch of people across some inhospitable land.

This place seems much better.

McKoala said...

I'm traveling and at the moment I'm in a time zone so different that I have nooooo idea whether you lot are up, down or hanging around. But, happy anniversary - again - oh Evil One. And hi to the rest of you too!

fairyhedgehog said...

Hi McK! These time zones do make it tricky.

fairyhedgehog said...

@nbsteve: *blushes*

I won't be there tonight at 4pm - that's 9pm our time and I'll be in an Indian restaurant with friends. Sorry folks!

D Jason Cooper said...

Hi, everybody. Must be the middle of the night there, it's Easter, here, followed by Easter Monday followed once in a great while by the day of the righteous dead, or as it's called locally, ANZAC Day. It's when people are respected for getting wasted not in a 'I'm having this party whether you want me to or not' way but in a 'who the hell planned this attack?' kind of way. I kow I grew up o your planet, but I'm living on this colonized one, now.

Robin B. said...

Happy Sunday!

Sarah Laurenson said...

Is it Sunday? Already?

Anonymous said...

Well, now that the cooking's done, the eating begins.

Anyone have any nice literary career developments to report? Or just a status report perhaps?

Jenni Merritt said...

Hey you all! I love the mingling... it was too fun scanning over this conversation :)

EE... you Rock!

Robin B. said...

He really does rock! It would be good to see him rock 'n roll, wouldn' it?!

See you all later this afternoon!

Sarah Laurenson said...

Nothing to report on publications, but I am the new regional advisor for SCBWI-L.A. It's a lot of work and interferes with my writing time, but it's also a lot of networking, making friends in the industry, giving back to an organization that continues to give so much to children's book writers and illustrators.

And don't forget the power. Hahahahahahahahahaha

_*rachel*_ said...

I'm here, kind of... and catching up on the mountain of comments.

_*rachel*_ said...

It's good to see everyone again... once school's out for summer I have got to stop in more.

Sunday already??? It's true what they say; time flys when celebrating a 5 year blogiversary!
